Categories: Mother's Day, Children
Summary:

The talk show "Kids Say the Funniest Things" is in full session, and today the topic is "Moms."  As the Host asks each child a question, they answer with candid and funny answers, such as, Question: "Why did God make mothers?  Answer: Because she's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is."  This skit reminds us of the humorous way children view their moms and the things they do.  Originally written for elementary age students, this skit is flexible enough to accommodate a large or small cast with a few simple line reassignments. Perfect for a mother/daughter banquet, Sunday School class or smaller school classroom. This skit will have your moms in stitches, as the funniest words come from the mouths of babes!

Notes:

This skit is very flexible.  The skit was originally written for elementary age children but could also be played by adults dressed/acting like children;  the skit could be played by all girls for use with a mother/daughter banquet; and the questions in the skit could be asked to your own group of kids and the actual answers to the questions could be inserted into the skit as well.

This skit is extremely flexible and can accommodate a small or large cast. For a larger cast, simply divide up the parts to fit your group size. Any part can be played by either a male or female. The part of the Host can be played by an adult or older child/teen.
Length: 5-8 minutes

Excerpt (Sample)

Setting: A discussion panel. Three chairs sit close together on stage left, and one chair sits a little farther apart stage right.

Note: Because this skit is very flexible, the amount of chairs you will need on stage will vary, depending on how large  of a cast you have.  The skit, as written, is for three kids and one adult.  There should be a chair for each child, plus one chair for the Host. The kids sit together, while the Host sits in a chair off by him/herself.  The stage should look like this:

                                                           Host: X         Kids: x x x

If you want to have a larger cast, these parts can be divided up amongst the kids, to accommodate whatever cast size you have.

Option: You can ask your group of kids these same questions, and record their answers.  Then use their actual answers in the skit.

As the scene opens, the kids and Host each take a seat.  The Host is holding a notebook or clipboard, from which to read from. Option: Some kind of "game show" or "talk show" music could be playing while the actors enter.  If music is playing, once all the actors are seated, the music stops.

Host:

(speaks enthusiastically to audience) Good morning, and welcome to another addition of "Kids Say the Funniest Things!" Today we're talking with a group of youngsters about the most important women in their lives: their moms.

All Kids:

(in unison, wave and speak to audience) Hi Mom!

Host:

I know these kids are anxious to get to their mid-morning snack...

Kid 1:

(interrupts, and rubs his tummy)  Donuts!  Yum!

Host:

...So let's get right to it.  (looks at the notebook) Our first question pertains to the reason moms are here.  (looks at the panel of kids) So kids, why did God make mothers?

Kid 1:

Because she's the only one who knows where the scotch tape is.

Host:

Doesn't your dad know where the scotch tape is?

Kid 1:

My dad doesn't know where anything is! He always says, "I don't know, ask your Mom."

Host:

(to Kid 2) How about you?  Why do you think God made mothers?

Kid 2:

Mostly to cook and clean the house.

Host:

Is your mom a good cook?

Kid 2:

Yeah, except when she makes that yucky broccoli.  But I guess my dog likes it okay.  I give him mine when she isn't looking.

Host:

(to audience) I bet you didn't know that, did you Mom?

Kid 2:

Oops! (quickly puts  her hand over her mouth)

Host:

(to Kid 1) Why do you think God made mothers?

Kid 3:

To help us get out of there when we were getting born.

Host:

Okay, so now that we know why mothers are here, let's talk about how God made mothers.   How do you think God made moms?

Kid 2:

I guess He used dirt, just like He did for the rest of us.

Kid 3:

I think He used some magic, plus some super powers, and a lot of stirring!

Host:

A lot of stirring?

Kid 3:

A LOT!  With a big spoon!  The biggest spoon there is!

Kid 1:

God made my mom just the same as He made me; He just used bigger parts.

Host:

So, what ingredients are moms made of?

Kid 2:

God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair.

Kid 3:

Out of everything that's nice in the world and only a little dab of mean.

Kid 1:

They started out from men's bones, then they are mostly made from string, I think.

Host:

(to audience) I bet you're all learning some things out there today, aren't you folks?  (back to the kids) Why did God give you your mother and not some other mom?

Kid 2:

'Cause we're related.

Kid 1:

'Cause God knew my mom likes me a lot more than other people's moms like me.

Host:

You don't think other moms like you that much?

Kid 1:

Well, when I'm good, I'm really, really good but when I'm bad, it ain't pretty!
