Let Us Pray-Drama Skit

Themes: Prayer, learning how to pray, prayer for healing
Categories: Topical, Life Situations, Christian Living, With God
Summary:

When Bobby gets sick, his mom calls in a few friends and family members to pray for him so he won't have to go to the doctor.  But Bobby thinks they must know some pretty "weird" people, based on some of the prayers he's been hearing.  One person uses words in a way Bobby can't even understand, another uses this prayer time to complain and make demands on God, and even his own brother treats God like a "surfer dude."  Bobby thinks he may have found help from a family friend, but all she can do is put herself down for not praying enough, and when Bobby's father tries to pray for him, he falls asleep from exhaustion.  Bobby just hopes that someone has the prayer it takes to make him well, and keep him out of the doctor's office.

Setting:  A child is sick in bed, mother is taking his temperature.

Mom:              (touching the child's forehead)  You still feel pretty hot.  Let's see if that fever has gone down any yet.  (takes thermometer out of child's mouth and reads it.)  Nope, it's still 104 degrees.  The medicine isn't working.  We'll have to try something else.

Bobby:            (scared) Does that mean I have to go to the doctor?  I don't want to go to the doctor mom!

Mom:              (soothing) Well, let's try one more thing before we call the doctor, okay?  I made a few phone calls and there are some people waiting outside to come in and pray with you.  Would that be all right?

Bobby:            I guess so.

Mom:              Okay, I'll send in Ms. Hill from across the street first.  I'll be back to check on you later.  (She exits)

Ms. Hill:           (enters, goes to sit on the bed)  Hi Bobby.  I hear you're not feeling very well.  (Bobby shakes his head no.)  Well, let's say a little prayer for you and hope you get to feeling better soon.  (Both bow their heads and fold their hands)

.Dear Lord.. Thank you for the world so sweet.  Thank you for the food we eat.  Thank you for the love we share.  Thank you for the fresh clean air.  Thank you for the sun in the sky, and make Bobby's fever go bye-bye.  Amen..

There, that should do it.  Feel better soon.  Bye now. (Exits)

Aunt Ruth:       (enters, goes to the bed)  I'm so sorry to hear your sick Bobby, but Auntie Ruth is here now, and we're going to pray that fever away.  Okay?  (Bobby shakes his head yes.  Aunt Ruth puts her hand on top of Bobby's hand, as if an evangelist anointing him)

.Our father, whom art in heaven, in whom so much doth spiritually dwell, and upon whose grandiose spectral kingdom do we impose to now facilitate; incline thine ear toward thy most humble servant. Grant that thy many entities be endowed upon the fruitful plain.  Granteth thy vast physicianship upon this mere mortal, the image of thine own producing. Removeth the sweltering of the collapsing temple.  Oh God of the Most High, the everlasting Father, the Prince of Peace, the Jehovah, the Lord of the heavens and the earth, the Creator of all that is holy, pure and innocent, we requesteth that all these things be made in what thine own annointings have already been predetermined.  In the name of the most holy God.  Amen..

(with a big smile)  You're going to be feeling much better soon, Bobby.  I just know it.  (she leaves)

Bobby:            (looking up to the ceiling, as if to God)  What was that?

Brady:             (enters)  Hey little bro, how's it going?  Not too good, huh?  Well, never fear, cause like, you're big brother's here.  Let's pray little dude.  (Bobby bows his head, Brady continues to stand next to the bed as he prays, looking up but not closing his eyes)

.Like, hey God, what's shakin.? It's me, Brady. It's totally cool that we can have this chat, you know?  In case you didn't notice, my little brother is, like, real down in the dumps man!  It's such a bummer that such a little dude has to be, like, so sick and everything.  Why don't ya throw him a bone and help him feel better.  Thanks Big Dude.  Catch ya later..

Gotta go bro..  (Makes a .peace. sign with his fingers)  Live long and prosper.  (exits)
