Gathering of Angels-Drama Skit

Themes: Christmas; Angels announcing the coming birth of Jesus; human interaction with angels
Categories: Youth, Christmas, Children, Bible Characters
Summary:

The time is nearing for Jesus' introduction to the world and God has requested His angels find a way to announce the news to the humans involved, like Joseph, Mary and the shepherds.  So Zuriel, the head angel, calls a meeting with three other angels to discuss the best way to approach the humans with this great news. The only problem is they are having a hard time coming up with an idea that will not appear scary, creepy, freaky, strange, weird, or bizarre to the earthlings.  One angel wants to send Mary a letter announcing “You may have already been selected to carry God’s child! and another angel thinks impersonating a sheep to tell the shepherds about Jesus' arrival is a good idea.  In the end, one angel suggests simply appearing to them and telling them not to be afraid might be the best solution.  Zuriel likes the idea but the others feel the humans will never "go for it,"  so Zuriel is left to take matters into her own hands.

Setting: A meeting of angels.

As the scene opens, Zuriel (girl), the head angel enters and calls the other angels to “order.” The angels are all dressed in white. (Wings and halo are optional)

Zuriel:

All right everyone.  Gather ‘round.  I need all angels on deck.  (calls out) Micah.

Micah:

(the boy angel Micah enters) Present.

Zuriel:

(calls out) Layla.

Layla:

(the girl angel Layla enters) Here.

Zuriel:

(calls out) Jahab.

Jahab::

(the boy angle Jahab: enters) At your service!

Layla:

What’s going on, Zuriel?

Zuriel:

It’s about the big event.  It’s getting closer, you know.

Micah:

Of course we know.  It’s all anyone has been talking about lately.

Zuriel:

Jesus’ birth is going to be the biggest event in history.  It will change the world as we know it forever.

Jahab:

We’re all really looking forward to it but what’s it got to do with us angels?

Zuriel:

Everything. God wants you to prepare the humans.

Jahab:

Huh?

Zuriel:

Humans have never experienced anything like this before so God wants to send you angels down to talk to them, and make sure the situation is handled correctly.

Micah:

Correctly?

Zuriel:

This is a big deal Micah but if we aren’t careful, it could be a disaster.  We need to make sure we sound credible to the humans when they hear the good news.

Layla:

I get it.  You called a meeting today to brainstorm ideas on how to tell the humans what’s about to happen and still have them believe us, right?

Zuriel:

Something like that, yes.  After all, what we’re about to tell them is going to sound pretty impossible.  Now, who wants to go first?

Jahab:

Who are we appearing to?

Zuriel:

First, you have to tell Mary that she’s pregnant with God’s child.

Micah:

Oh, I know, we could send her one of those letters that says, “You may have already been selected to carry God’s child!”

Jahab::

Yeah, then when she opens it up it can say, “Congratulations Mary! You’re a winner!   God has selected you to give birth to the future savior of the world.”

Layla:

That would be so exciting!

Zuriel:

(sarcastic) Yes, and finding out you’re pregnant with God’s child through the mail is very believable.  And it isn’t creepy at all.

Micah:

But Ed McMahon used to do it.  He was very reliable, and lots of other people win his contests all the time.

Zuriel:

I just don’t think that’s what God had in mind.  Any other ideas?
