When No One is Watching-Drama Skit

When No One is Watching-Drama Skit

Themes: Love your neighbor; kindness; compassion; who are you when no one is looking; God's chosen people
Categories: Topical, Youth
Summary:

"I've got a surprise for you," are the six little words that will soon change the lives of three teenage girls.  It seems this small youth group has been studying about the various aspects of love, including the Biblical command, "Love they neighbor as thyself."  So, when their youth group leader announces that the hunky actor and avid charity worker, Chett Adkins, is sponsoring an essay contest about what love means, the girls jump at the chance to win the grand prize: a week spent touring with Chett, working on various charity projects.    It seems the girls have everything under control until Jane, a newcomer who is slightly "different" shows up.  Now, the girls are being put to the real test to see just how far they can show love to this new "neighbor."

Leader:

Hold on! Before you get too excited, you have to enter the contest.

Mariah:

What contest?

Leader:

Sit down and I'll tell you.

All three girls quickly sit back in their seats and listen attentively

Leader:

You need to write an essay that tells what love means to you.

All three girls smile widely

Tiffany:

(confidently) That's the contest? Writing about love?

Leader:

That's it.

Ashley:

Then we've got this.

Tiffany:

Yeah, it'll be easy.  We've done nothing but study this love stuff all month!

Leader:

It might be harder than you think.

Mariah:

Mrs. Wilks is right.  Knowing it is one thing but putting it down on paper is another.

Ashley:

Not for Tiffany.  She's a genius at essays. (becoming discouraged, speaks to Mariah) We shouldn't even bother; you know she's going to be the one to win.

Leader:

The contest specifically said there could be multiple winners from each youth group, so you've all got a shot.

Ashley:

All right then, let's get started!

A cell phone rings

Leader:

(picks up the phone from her pocket and answers-after a moment , she puts her hand over the phone) I'm sorry girls, this is an important call.  I need to take this privately.  Will you be okay without me for a few minutes?

Tiffany:

Go ahead.  We'll get started on our essays.

Leader nods her head and returns to her phone call, as she exits the stage

Tiffany:

I know exactly what I'm going to write about.  (she picks up a pen and begins writing in the notebook in front of her)

Ashley:

Already?

Tiffany:

(continues writing) Yep, and it's an essay guaranteed to get me on that team trip.

Mariah:

How can you be so sure?

Tiffany:

Because Mariah, my dear child (shakes her head in pity of Mariah) when I write about how I shaved off all of my long, luxurious hair for my best friend who was going through chemo, just so she wouldn't have to feel so "alone," the judges won't be able to wipe the tears away fast enough.  They'll be begging me to go on that trip with Chett.

Mariah:

But you never did that.

Tiffany:

I know.

Mariah:

And you never would do that.  You got a bad haircut once and you wouldn't be seen without a hat for 2 months!

Tiffany:

(shrugs her shoulders) So. (puts her pen down and quits writing) Mrs. Wilks never said the essay had to be true; it just had to show what love meant to us.  Now I ask you, can you think of a greater example of love than this? (she holds up her notebook admiringly)

Ashley:

(begins to clap in appreciation) Brilliant!  Just brilliant.

Tiffany:

Chett Adkins, come to mama! (does a little "victory" dance-after a moment, she looks off to the stage exit and stops suddenly)

Mariah:

What's the matter, Tiff?

Tiffany:

Take a look at what just walked in the door.

All three girls look off towards the stage exit

Ashley:

What is she wearing?

Mariah:

It looks like bib-overalls.

Ashley:

I didn't know they made those for girls.

Tiffany:

They don't.  At least not for upper class girls.

Mariah:

Be nice now.

Tiffany:

And those glasses... (laughs) If they were any bigger we could use them as dinner plates.

Ashley:

Who's her hair stylist?

Tiffany:

Whoever it is, she should be fired!

Mariah:

She's coming.  Act natural.

The girls quickly take their seat and act non-chalant, as Jane enters wearing a flannel shirt and bib-overalls.  She is dressed very "unkept" with hair either up in a pony tail and half  falling outt or if her hair is short, it should be very disheveled and messy.  She wears large, over-sized glasses and large dirty work boots and/or has a long hanky hanging out of her pocket.  Her appearance should be in stark contrast to that of the other girls.  When she speaks, Jane talks in a very obvious southern accent.

Jane:

Howdy y'all!  Is this the youth group?

Tiffany:

Well, it sure ain't Hee-Haw, honey! (does a poor job of trying not to laugh)

Ashley:

(playfully hits Tiffany on the arm) Tiffany! (laughs)

Jane:

(looking down at herself) I'm mighty sorry for my 'ppearance.  I just come off the tractor out in the fields.  I was helping my daddy and I d'int wanna be late so I come on over jus' as I is.

Mariah:

That's okay.  You haven't missed much yet anyhow.

Tiffany:

Except maybe a shower.  What is that smell?
