Serve to Win the Prize-Drama Skit

Serve to Win the Prize-Drama Skit

Themes: Serving God; winning the eternal prize
Categories: Life Situations, Spiritual Growth, Topical, With God, Youth
Summary:

After trying for several hours to serve the Lord, Cody, Max and Daisy feel like giving up.  Without knowing it, they are misunderstanding what it means to "serve the Lord and win the prize:"  Max is serving with a tennis ball and racket in order to win an Xbox; Cody is serving a volleyball in the hopes of winning a 3D tv; and Daisy is attempting to serve people in a restaurant to get front row seats at a concert. After awhile, the boys can barely move their arms, and Daisy keeps dropping plates, getting food all over herself.  None of them think they can keep "serving" at this pace.  It isn't until their friend Jen, clears up the matter, that the group realize what it truly means to "serve the Lord and win the prize."

As the scene opens, Max and Cody are sitting in chairs on the stage.

Cody:

(moving just a little, sounding very tired and worn down) Max?

Max:

(moves slightly, equally as tired) Yeah?

Cody:

My arm hurts.

Max:

Mine too.

Cody:

(straightening up—he tries to lift his arm—he does so very slowly, and only raises it half-way) Ow, ow, ow, ow! I can’t even lift it up.

Max:

Quit being a baby; it can’t hurt that bad!

Cody:

(puts his arm down) Oh yeah?  Then you try.

Max:

(Max tries to raise his arm slowly) Ow! Mamma mia, that hurts! (puts his arm back down)

Cody:

I told you!  What are we going to do?

Max:

I don’t know.  I know we said we were going to serve the Lord but I’m not sure I can do it anymore.  Not like this.

Cody:

Me either.  How do you think Daisy is doing?

Max:

Probably a lot better than we are.

A “crash” is heard off stage.  Daisy enters—she has stains on her clothing and pieces of food in her hair, maybe a piece of lettuce--she looks at the other two and then begins to cry loudly and over-dramatically

Daisy:

(stops crying) I give up!  I can’t do it anymore!

Max:

(to Cody) Does that answer your question?

Cody:

(to Daisy) Not going so good, huh Dais?

Daisy:

(irritated) You think?!

Cody:

Then what are we supposed to do? If we can’t serve, how will we ever get the prize?

Max:

I guess we have to keep trying.

Cody:

But my arm is going to fall off!  I can’t even feel it anymore!

 Daisy:

And I stink!  I smell like fish….and garlic.

Cody:

I wondered what that smell was.

Daisy:

(begins to cry just a little) I don’t want to stink anymore!

Max:

(to Daisy)  Don’t cry, Daisy.  Cody didn’t mean it. (to Cody) Tell her you’re sorry.

Cody:

No!  I did mean it.  She does stink.  I could smell her a mile away!

Daisy begins to wail loudly

Max:

(to Daisy) Please don’t cry, Daisy.  If you cry, then …(fighting back tears)…then it will make me cry.  (he starts to cry too)

Daisy:

I want to take a shower! (cries)

Max:

I don’t want to serve anymore! (cries)

Cody:

(looks back and forth between Max and Daisy, then begins to cry too) I want to feel my arm again! (cries)

After a moment of all three of them sobbing, Jen enters

Jen:

(concerned) Hey you guys, what’s wrong?

They all stop crying

Daisy:

We’re having a bad day.

Jen:

Why? What happened?

Cody:

We’ve been trying to serve the Lord.

Max:

We want to win the prize.

Jen:

That should be a good thing.

Daisy:

You’d think so, but it’s a lot harder than it looks!

Jen:

(surprised) Really? I’ve been serving the Lord all week and I love it.

Daisy:

(surprised) You do?

Jen:

Yeah.

Max:

Aren’t you sore?

Jen:

No.  I’m having a great time.

Daisy:

You don’t mind all the mustard stains?

Cody:

Or the shooting, stabbing pains in your arm?

Jen:

(confused) What are you guys talking about?

Daisy:

We’re talking about serving the Lord, Jen.

Max:

Yeah, try to keep up!

Jen:

But what do mustard stains and pains in your arm have to do with serving God?

Cody:

Oh, I don’t know…only everything!
