If There Was No Jesus-Drama Skit

If There Was No Jesus-Drama Skit

Themes: Christmas; the impact Jesus has had on the world; the concept of what life would be like if Jesus had never existed
Categories: Christmas
Summary:

When two adult sisters and their families spend Christmas Eve together, the conservation turns to exploring what life would be like today if Jesus had never been born. As one character states, "It would be like winter year round but never Christmas." Others remark that all hope would be gone, and we would be lost and separated from God.  A few of the characters share their past circumstances and lament on how different their lives would have been if it were not for the hope and love of Jesus.

Todd:

Now, where was I?

Mariah:

You were about to ask a question.

Todd:

Right. What if Jesus had never been born?

The other 5 gasp

Mariah:

Daddy, that’s a terrible thought! Why would you even think that?

Todd:

It’s their fault!  (indicating Holly, Keith and Heather) They’re talking about Mary and Joseph, and pregnancy…

Zach:

(makes a “yuck” face) Ewww!

Todd:

And then you (indicating Holly) made us watch that movie earlier.

Holly:

It’s a Wonderful Life?

Todd:

That’s the one.  George Bailey got to see what life would have been like if he’d never been born, so it got me thinking, what if Jesus had never been born?

Keith:

I guess the three wise men would have felt pretty stupid.

Mariah:

And I wouldn’t be able to wear my bracelet anymore.

Holly:

Which bracelet, sweetie?

Mariah:

(holding up her wrist to reveal a bracelet) The one that says WWJD: What Would Jesus Do?

Todd:

Life would sure be a lot different.

Heather:

December 25th would be just another day.

Keith:

It would be like winter year round but never Christmas.

Mariah:

(alarmed) No Christmas?

Zach:

(concerned) No presents?

Holly:

There would be no need.  There would be nothing to celebrate.

Zach:

Why not?

Todd:

Because Jesus is the one who brings us hope.  He’s the perfect example of unconditional love, and without him…

Heather:

All hope is gone.

Holly:

He took the punishment for all of our sins, and if it wasn’t for him, we’d be lost…separated from God.

Todd:

Alone.

Keith:

Unforgiven.

Holly:

I can’t imagine a day, an hour , even one minute away from God.  Jesus is the bridge that allows us to cross over into God’s presence.

Zach:

(innocently) Wow, that’s one big bridge!

Todd:

(smiling) You got that right, son.

Heather:

(getting serious) I can’t imagine what my life, (looks to Keith) what our life would be like without Jesus in it.

Keith:

We never could have gotten through all those months after your illness a few year’s back if it hadn’t been for the hope that Jesus brought.

Heather:

Knowing he could endure all he did, it gave me the strength and the courage to face my own dark days. And now look where we are.

Keith:

(he places his hand on Heather’s stomach, looks at her and smiles) Happy and healthy.

Todd:

If it wasn’t for Jesus, I wouldn’t be here today.  (looking at Mariah and Zach) And neither would the two of you.

Mariah:

How come?

Todd:

Because I wasn’t a very nice person a long time ago, and if I had continued doing some of the things I was doing at the time, I probably would have slowly destroyed myself.  And I never would have met your mom.

Zach:

That’s so sad!

Todd:

Yes it is, but because of Jesus that story has a happy ending.  One day a friend told me about Jesus, and I learned that he loved me no matter what I had done, or what I was still doing. So I asked Jesus into my heart. I also asked him to forgive me for all the wrong things I had done, and he did—Jesus forgave me, and after that, my life was never the same.

Mariah:

Is that when you met Mom?

Todd:

It was a few years later, but yes.

Holly:

Isn’t it strange how one life touches another, which affects another, which affects another?

Mariah:

Just like George Bailey!  If George hadn’t been born, he couldn’t have saved his brother, and his brother wouldn’t have saved all those people in the war. And who knows how many people all those people saved!

Holly:

That’s right. So try to think of all the lives that Jesus has touched—all those who have been saved, forgiven, and loved because Jesus was born.

Zach:

That’s a lot of people!

Holly:

Now try to imagine all the lives that would be lost if he never existed.
