Three friends, Kay, Jessica and Leah all face a big decision in their life.  Kay feels God is leading her to open her own business but she is terrified to step out from her comfort zone. Jessica just got engaged but as she is admiring her engagement ring, she feels God telling her she is marrying the wrong man, and that she should wait for the right one to come along.  Leah is dealing with a rebellious older son who is tearing her family apart, and when God tells her to "let him go" Leah is shocked and a bit confused.  God gently reminds her that "her baby" is 19 years old and that it's time he take responsibility for the consequences of his actions.  Throughout the skit, we see how God gently guides each woman and the results of each of their own actions. In the end, all three women realize the importance and the blessings of doing God's will.

Setting: The stage is bare.

As the skit opens, we find three friends standing, saying words of comfort to each other.

Kay:

It’s all going to work out you know.

Leah:

How?

Kay:

I’m not sure.  What I do know is that if God is leading us He’ll work it out somehow.

Leah:

(shaking her head, about to cry) I don’t think I can do it.

Jessica:

Me either.  I don’t think this is the answer.

Kay:

You think it’s easy for me?  I’m terrified!

Leah:

It’s not the same for you.

Kay:

You’re kidding, right?

Jessica:

She means you’re in a different situation than we are, that’s all.

Kay:

I’ve still got a lot to think about.

Jessica:

We all do.

Kay:

So, we’re agreed? We’ll go home, continue to pray about it, and then meet back here in a month and see where we are.  What do you say?

Jessica:

I’ll be here.

Leah:

Me too, but I’m not promising anything.

Kay:

Let’s just see where God leads, okay? I’ll see you both in a month.

Jessica:

One month:  same time, same place.

Leah:

See you then.

The ladies give each other a hug, with pats on the back, mumbling words of encouragement, then they all exit.  After a moment, Kay re-enters with a chair in her hands and walks to center stage.  She turns the chair around “backwards” so she sits straddling the chair, facing the audience. When it is time for God to speak, his voice is heard back stage only—we never see him.

Kay:

(looking upwards) Okay God.  It’s just you and me here. Let’s talk.

God:

(voice heard from back stage) I’d be happy to, Kay.  What’s on your mind?

Kay:

First, I’d like to thank you for sending me such great friends.  Leah and Jessica are just what I needed and I’m so thankful to have them in my life. Their friendship means everything to me.

God:

And just think, you almost missed out on that opportunity. Remember?

Kay:

I remember.   I should have listened to you sooner. I really owe you one.

God:

How about you re-pay me by trusting me now.

Kay:

(smiling) Oh, so that’s how it’s gonna be, huh?  (shaking her finger at God playfully) I like how you worked that into the conversation.  Very clever.

God:

Thank you.  I try.

Kay:

But I thought we’d been over this already. I don’t think I can do what you’re asking.  The very thought scares me to death!  It’s too much.

God:

You can do it.  I have faith in you.

Kay:

It’s too soon.

God:

You’re ready.

Kay:

I beg to differ.

God:

I know. You have been, for quite awhile now.  I wish you’d stop fighting me on this and let me guide you in a new direction.  How long have you been working at the restaurant, Kay?

Kay:

About 8 years.

God:

Then it’s time.  It’s time for you to branch out on your own.

Kay:

You keep saying that.

God:

Good, then you do hear me.

Kay:

I hear you all right.  (smiling) I’m just choosing to ignore you.

God:

Tell me why.

Kay:

You know why!  I don’t know anything about running my own business.

God:

You didn’t know anything about baking when you first started either but now look at you, you’re a pro.

Kay:

But I’d have to quit my job. I like it there.

God:

You like it because it’s comfortable.  It’s easy.  I’m offering you something more, Kay.  Something you could never possibly dream of.

Kay:

Like what?

God:

All in due time.

Kay:

(sighs) I hate it when you say stuff like that.  It would be easier for me if you’d just give me all the answers up front.

God:

And it would be easier for me, if you’d simply trust me.  Why can’t you do that?

Kay:

Because I’m scared.

God:

I know you are. But I’ll be with you. I promise.

Kay:

But I’d have to buy a building, and equipment and hire employees… I don’t have that kind of “know-how” or money or resources.

God:

But  I do.  I don’t want to brag here Kay, but I do have a lot of connections you know.  I know a lot of people.  I could hook you up pretty good…if you’d let me.

Kay:

I keep forgetting that, don’t I?

God:

Yep.

Kay:

You’re right.  I know you’re right.  (sighs) Okay, I’ll do it. I’ll give my notice at work. And then….well, I don’t know what will happen next but I do trust you, God.

God:

Thank you.

Kay:

You’re going to take care of me, right?

God:

I won’t let you down, Kay.  I promise.

Kay:

Not my will but yours?

God:

That’s all I ask.

Kay:

All right then.  It’s settled.  I know what I have to do.

With confident hesitation Kay exits. Jessica enters and takes the seat Kay has vacated, turning the chair around, back to normal.  She sits admiring her engagement ring, smiling.

God:

Why the big smile Jessica?

Jessica:

Because it’s a beautiful ring and I’m finally getting married!

God:

Too bad it’s to the wrong guy.

Jessica:

(very upset) Why do you have to keep saying that!

God:

Because in your heart you know it’s the truth.  He’s not the right man for you.  He’s not the person I picked to be your husband.

Jessica:

At least I’d be married.

God:

So you’re willing to marry Mr. Wrong?

Jessica:

I want a husband and a family, God.  Don’t you understand that?

God:

I understand it very well, Jess.

Jessica:

Then you know I can’t do it by myself.  (she admires her ring again) Besides, what’s wrong with Steve? He’s a good guy.

God:

Steve is a very good guy.  I like him very much.  He’s just not the right guy for you

Jessica:

(getting angry) Why are you torturing me like this?  If it was up to you I’d be an old maid!

God:

I know the plans I have for you, Jessica, and they include giving you hope and a happy future; not harming you or “torturing” you.

Jessica:

But Steve is a good provider.  He’ll take care of me.

God:

I’ll take care of you.  I know what I’m doing, Jess. I have it all planned out, and if you’ll listen to me and do what I say, I promise you, you won’t be disappointed.

Jessica:

But Steve loves me…

God:

Not more than I do.  (pause) Can you honestly say you love him?

Jessica:

I do love him.

God:

With your whole heart?

Jessica:

Define whole heart.

God:

(getting firm) Jessica!

Jessica:

All right, maybe not with all of my heart.  But…

God:

Your dreams can come true.  But it won’t happen with Steve.  Are you willing to wait on me, for my timing?

Jessica:

Not my will, but yours?

God:

Yes.

Jessica:

(sighs heavily) But what if…

God:

(interrupts) I can only answer your “what ifs” with: “Trust me.”  I guarantee you won’t regret it.
