Categories: With God, Halloween, Spiritual Growth, Sin, Life Situations, God/Satan
Summary:

Gossip, Anger and Envy are on their first assignment to "tear down" a woman named Jane.  One by one, they knock on her door asking her to let them come in.  She resists at first, recognizing them for what they are.  However, when Satan comes to check on his "minions" he tells them they have to use a disguise if they want to get "in," saying if humans are unaware of who you really are, "they will welcome you in with open arms."  When the trio comes back disguised as a Prayer Warrior, Love, and Success, Jane does exactly as Satan had predicted: she welcomed them in.  It doesn't take long for Jane to begin succumbing to an "evil" way of thinking, and the trio is happy until Jesus shows up, knocking on the door, requesting some private time with Jane.  The demons begin to tremble as Jesus reveals who they really are, and Jane finally realizes the only voice she must be tuned into belongs to Jesus.

Notes:

This skit shows how Satan cleverly uses "disguise" to invade our hearts and thoughts.

Setting: A living room. A door should be to the side of the stage if possible.  If not, the door can be "implied."

As the scene opens, Jane sits on the couch reading a magazine.  After a moment, Anger, Envy and Gossip enter to the side of the stage - they should all be dressed in black.  Around their necks hould hang a sign indicating their name.  Ex: Anger should wear a sign around his neck that reads "Anger,"  Gossip should wear a sign around her neck that reads "Gossip," etc.

Gossip:

All right, does everyone know what to do?

Envy:

We've been over this a hundred times.  Let's just get in already!

Anger:

Yeah!  The sooner we get in, the sooner we can bring 'em down.

Envy:

And the sooner  we get promoted. I'm tired of being stuck in the fiery pit.

Gossip:

We all are.

Envy:

Then let's get to it.  I want to get out there and show Satan what I can really do.

Anger:

Ditto.  So, who's the first victim?

Gossip:

A single woman named Jane.  A good enough person but very insecure.  Satan says she should be an easy target.

Envy:

Then step aside and let me show you how it's done.

Envy pushes Gossip out of the way & heads for the door.

Envy:

(knocking on the door) Knock, knock.

Jane:

(looking up from her magazine) Who's there?

Envy:

Envy.  Can I come in?

Jane:

No! Go away! (goes back to reading her magazine)

Envy opens his mouth wide in shock

Gossip:

Oooh, CRASH and BURN!

Envy:

(still in shock) I don't understand.  She should be eager to let me in.

Anger:

Get out of the way.  (pushes Envy aside) Let me show you how the big boys do it.

Anger knocks on the door

Anger:

Knock, knock.

Jane:

(looks up from her magazine) Who's there?

Anger:

(in a very loud, angry tone) Anger!  Let me in!

Jane:

Beat it, loser! (goes back to reading her magazine)

Anger:

(to Gossip and Envy, shocked) Did she just call me a loser?

Smiling, Gossip and Envy shake their head "yes"

Anger:

(turns back to the door) You're the loser!  (begins banging on the door) Now, let me come in!

Jane:

(not bothering to look up - turns a page in her magazine) Not by the hair of my chinny, chin, chin! (smiles) Now beat it, dirt bag!

Gossip and Envy try to hide their laughter

Anger:

(extremely shocked, he turns back to the others, pouts and crosses his arms)  Loser? Dirt bag? Easy target, my ear!  No one can get in there!

Gossip:

I bet I can.  No woman can resist gossip.  Just let me pull up my "big girl" panties (she makes a motion like she's hiking up her underwear) and I'll show you boys how we do it in the big leagues.

Gossip non-chalantly pushes Anger out of her with her hand and knocks on the door

Gossip:

 Knock, knock.

Jane:

(looking up) Who's there?

Gossip:

It's me, Gossip.  I know you're gonna let me in, right?

Jane:

Not interested.  (goes back to reading her magazine)

Gossip:

(incredulous) What? How dare you!  No woman says "no" to Gossip!

Jane:

I am.  Now take a hike!

Gossip:

(appalled) But...

Jane:

You heard me, get out of here!

Gossip:

(trying to retain some of her dignity) She seems to be busy right now.  I'll try again later.

Anger:

(smiling) No woman can resist you, huh?

Gossip gives Anger a dirty look

Envy:

(panicked) What are we gonna do? Satan will be here any minute to check up on us.

Anger:

Somebody think of something, quick.

Gossip:

Too late.  He's coming. (points to the exit)

Satan enters.  He should be dressed similarly to the others but more flamboyant or different somehow so that he stands out and looks as if he's obviously in charge - perhaps he wears a cape or a red shirt or a jacket and tie etc.

Satan:

(upon seeing the others standing outside the door, he is immediately angry) Why are you standing around out here when you should be in there! (points to where Jane is) Perhaps I put my trust in the wrong minions.

Anger:

(confidently) No, Sir!

Gossip:

She's a lot tougher than she looks.

Envy:

She resisted all of us, Sir.

Gossip:

She told us to "take a hike" and wouldn't let us in.

Anger:

(a bit embarrassed) And she called me a dirt bag!

Satan:

Pathetic.  All of you!  You must have been doing it wrong.

Gossip:

I don't think so, Sir.  We knocked on the door like you said, told her who we were and...

Satan:

(interrupting) Wait...did you say you told her who you were?

Gossip:

Yes, Sir.

Satan:

(angry) Fools!  You never, ever tell them who  you really are! Of course she didn't let you in - she knows what you look like, what you sound like. You've got to go in disguise

Envy:

(confused) "Disguise", Sir?

Satan:

(slaps Envy on the back of his head) Have I taught you nothing?  Disguise is key!  The humans will never let you in as you are  but if you can convince them you're something else, then they will welcome you in with open arms.

Gossip:

I get it.  So by the time they realize who we really are, we hopefully will have caused irreparable damage!

Satan:

Finally, someone who understands.  Now go, get in the disguises I left for you.

Gossip, Envy and Anger exit the stage and "change into" their disguises.

Satan:

(talking to himself)  It's so hard to get good help these days.

Anger re-enters holding up a big read heart that has the word "love" written on it.  He should still wear the  sign that says "Anger", but it should be hidden, so that the red heart is covering over the top of it.

Anger:

I feel ridiculous!  Are you sure this will work?

Satan:

I've been doing this a long time.  Trust me.  It will work.

Satan gestures towards the door

Satan:

Give it a try.

Anger once again goes to the door and knocks

Jane:

Who is it?

Anger:

(in a rough and angry voice) It's Love.  Now let me in!

Satan:

(hits him on the back of the head) Don't say it like that!

Jane:

(confused) Who?

Anger:

(clears his throat and this time speaks in a soft, pleasant, gentle voice) I mean, it's Love, dear.  Won't you be kind enough to invite me in?

Jane:

(immediately smiling, gets up and opens the door) Hello! (gives Anger a brief hug) Please, come in!

Satan:

(to Anger) Told ya.  Works like a charm.  Now get in there and wreak some havoc!

Anger walks thru the door and immediately sits down and begins to talk with Jane - this should be done in a way that looks like they are talking but no sound is actually heard.  Envy is next to enter.  He is dressed in a business coat and tie and has a briefcase in hand.  On the briefcase is written the word "Success."  He should still wear his "Envy" sign but it should be turned around so it is not seen.

Satan:

Dressed for success.  I like it!

Envy:

(pulls at his tie uncomfortably) I like my own clothes better.

Satan:

(fixes the tie, putting it back in place) But this is the way in.  Just remember what I told you and you'll be fine: disguise is key

Envy:

You got it, Sir!

Envy goes to the door and knocks

Jane:

Who is it?

Envy:

Success.

Jane:

(clapping her hands in excitement, she jumps up to answer the door) I've been waiting for you!  I'm so glad you're here.  Come in!

Envy walks thru the door  and takes a seat near Anger.  Anger gives Envy a "high five" , as they both "talk" to Jane.  As before, it looks as if they are all engaged in conversation, though the audience hears nothing.

Satan:

(smiling at the victory) They grow up so fast!

Gossip enters dressed as a "Prayer Warrior."  This could be as simple as carrying a sword along with a list of names (for people to pray for) on a poster board.  On top of the poster board the words 'Prayer Warrior"  should be written in large enough letters so the audience can see.

Satan:

Ah, you look lovely, my dear.  You're a real heart-breaker.

Gossip:

That's the idea, right?

Satan:

Now, go get her!  The others are already inside.

Gossip:

I won't let you down, Sir. (gives Satan a salute)

Gossip goes to the door and knocks

Jane:

Who's there?

Gossip:

It's Prayer Warrior.  May I please come in?

Jane:

(goes to the door and opens it) Of course! Anything for a Prayer Warrior.

Gossip walks thru the door and sits near Anger and Envy

Gossip:

(leaning over towards Anger and Envy, speaks in a loud whisper) It's almost too easy!
