I am a Survivor-Drama Skit

I am a Survivor-Drama Skit

Themes: Fear; trusting God; getting along with others; Survivor television show; things aren't always what they seem; quirky people; obsessions
Categories: With God, Personal, Topical
Summary:

Four contestants are marooned on a tropical island in order to play the t.v. reality show, Survivor.  Each seems to have their own interesting "quirks:" Celeste is obsessed with her looks and can't put down her hand mirror long enough to look at anything else but herself; Marva is a germophobe and hypochondriac who doesn't go anywhere without her first-aid kit; Irwin claims his best friend is a five foot talking green lizard named Fred, whom he just so happened to bring with him to the island; and Joe is a pretty average guy who reads his Bible and trusts God in any situation.  Things on the island are strange enough until a series of events causes Celeste to break her mirror, Fred to run away and Marva to believe she is dying, not to mention the t.v. crew and all their supplies suddenly disappear.  Now it's up to Joe to hold everyone together by letting them know God has not given them a spirit of fear.  Convincing his teammates to trust God in this very odd situation, God comes through in an equally unusual way.

Notes:

This is a fun skit to introduce any one of a wide variety of topics.  The characters are silly with strange fears and obsessions and will have your audience laughing as they learn to trust God in even the oddest of situations.

Irwin:

I'm telling you, everything is gone!  Everything and everyone has  disappeared!

Celeste:

Maybe breaking my mirror was bad luck!  Now we're stranded out here all alone...with no mirrors anywhere!

Marva:

I can feel myself slipping away.  (dramatically) Oh, the horror!  Soon, there will be three...

Joe:

All right, stop it!  All of you!  There has to be an explanation for all of this.

Irwin:

What could it possibly be?

Joe:

I don't know but people and things don't just disappear into thin air.  Maybe there was a change of plans and they moved to a different island.

Irwin:

And didn't take us with them?

Celeste:

No way.  They would have taken me.  I'm too beautiful to leave behind.

Marva:

Ouch! (stands up quickly) I pricked my finger on something.  (looking at her finger, then getting hysterical) Oh no, I'm bleeding...I'm bleeding!  Somebody help me!  I'm losing blood!

Joe:

Let me see. (looks at her finger) It's just a scratch.

Marva:

Hurry!  Get to my first aid kit.

As Joe gets ointment and a band-aid out of the first aid kit, the others continue to speak

Irwin:

I miss hearing Fred's voice.

Celeste:

I miss seeing my gorgeous smile.

Marva:

I miss my germ infested home.

Joe:

(puts a band-aid on Marva's finger)  Look everyone, I don't know what's going on or why all of this has happened, but I do know we've got to settle down and remain calm.

Marva:

How can you be calm at a time like this?

Joe:

Because of this.  (he reaches for his Bible and holds it up)

Irwin:

A book?

Joe:

Not just any book; it's the Bible.  These are God's words and right now His words are telling me that He has not given us a spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind.

Marva:

Really? A sound mind?

Joe:

Well, (looks around at the others) it also talks about miracles, so let's hold on to that for now.  Let's start by sitting down and taking a deep breath.

They all sit in a semi-circle and take a deep breath

Celeste:

Now what?

Joe:

Irwin, you said there were no supplies on the island at all?

Irwin:

None.

Marva:

We're all gonna die!

Joe:

(trying to smile) Marva, I need you to stop doing that, please.  No one is going to die.

Marva:

How can you be sure?

Joe:

Because I believe God will provide for us.
