Showers of Blessings-Drama Skit

Themes: Recognizing God's blessings; God's work in our life
Categories: Thanksgiving, Spiritual Growth, Christian Living, With God, Women's Ministry, Youth
Summary:

Lori has been sitting on the hill with her umbrella for 8 hours, awaiting the "showers of blessings" that God has said He will send to His people.  When her friend, Beth, shows up, the girls decide to wait together.  As the girls ponder what the scripture might actually mean, they begin to reminisce about their lives over the past few weeks.  Through their discussion, the girls begin to realize that they are already in the midst of the shower of God's blessings, and that it has nothing to do with a downpour of rain.

Notes:

This skit is based on the scripture Ezekiel 34: 26 ("And I will make them and the places round about my hill a blessing; and I will cause the shower to come in his season; there shall be showers of blessing.")

Excerpt (Sample)

Setting: A teenage girl sits holding an umbrella over her head.

Beth:    (enters, looking curiously as Lori) Lori?

Lori:     Oh, hi Beth.

Beth:    You're mom told me I would probably find you up here on the hill.  What are you doing?

Lori:     Nothing, just sitting here.

Beth:    What's with the umbrella?

Lori:     I'm waiting.

Beth:    For what?

Lori:     My shower of blessings.

Beth:    Your what?

Lori:     My shower of blessings.

Beth:    What's that?

Lori:     Well, I was reading in my Bible the other day about how God sends showers of blessings down on His people.  So, I thought I'd be prepared.

Beth:    Really?  I don't think I've ever heard of that.

Lori:     I hadn't either until the other day.  Actually Beth, I wouldn't stand too close to me without an umbrella.  Those blessings are going to be coming anytime now.  You might get all wet.

Beth:    Hey, you know what, I think I've got an umbrella in my purse.  (she pulls it out) Mind if I wait with you?

Lori:     No, I don't mind.  You're a Christian too, so God may even send you your own shower of blessings.  It might be a downpour!

Beth:    That would be so awesome! (she sits down)

(A few moments go by)

Beth:    So, how long have you been sitting here?

Lori:     (looks at her watch) I don't know.8 hours maybe.

Beth:    Eight hours!

Lori:     I didn't want to miss my blessings.

Beth:    Can't you wait somewhere else?  Why up here?

Lori:     Because God said He would .bless them and the places surrounding my hill..

Beth:    I guess that explains the hill then.

Lori:     He also said He will 'send down showers in season and there will be showers of blessing..

Beth:    This is the rainy season.

Lori:     I know.  That's why I've been waiting here so long.

Beth:    But 8 hours?

Lori:     I'll be here as long as it takes.

Beth:    Are you sure it's worth it?

Lori:     I'm sure.  Anything God does is always worth it.

Beth:    Yeah, I guess you're right.

(more moments pass)

Beth:     (looking around her umbrella, up into the sky) I know you said God would send showers of blessings, but Lori, there's not a cloud in the sky.  The sun is shining and it doesn't look like rain at all!  Are you sure we're not wasting our time?

Lori:     I'm positive.  I know those showers are going to come any minute now.

Beth:    Are you sure you read the scripture right?

Lori:     What do you mean?

Beth:    I mean, will the showers come for young people like us or do you have to be really old to receive God's blessings? You know, like 30 or something.

Lori:     Gosh, I don't know.  I don't remember reading anything about having to be old to receive God's blessings but now I'm starting to wonder.  Let's wait a little longer and see what happens, okay?
